Well, I'm actually in India but also birthday!
As the title moved already mentioned the birthday and the celebrations out over a weekend: Friday was my roommates birthday, so we went nachm celebration evening in the city, go eat and drink what bissl. Saturday was planned our joint party. Since my roommate to 2n afternoon had reported that no one comes vonseinen friends, threw just my party. Sunday arrived on Monday and relatives of my roommate's, so on my real birthday dinner and then went again to the movies, Harry Potter look at.

Himalaya (Kashmir second part)
Srinagar After I would of course in the Himalayas. So I hired a guide.
difficult without it bissl been to find the path. Ned signs out there, and paths are also seen sometimes. I also lacked the necessary equipment.
went off at Sonmarg, a village on the National Highway from Srinagar to Leh (to the Tibetan border ). And dann gings los, einfach immer weiter und höher in die Berge hinein.
Ich hab 5 Tage trekking gemacht und dabei auch den Taijer-Gletscher bestiegen, naja, angefangen. Es hatte ein paar Tage zuvor das erste mal in diesem Winter da so richtig geschneit. So war das Wandern nicht immer einfach: auf 20cm Schnee und darunter riesige Steine zwischen denen dann auch mal Löcher mit nem Meter tiefe waren. Auch die Temperaturen waren recht frisch: nachts immer Frost.
The camp was thus also a challenge, but the leaders were well prepared, had enough eating, taking cover. Of course, also a chef. It's amazing what so everything fits on two ponies on it.

Diwali - Festival of Lights, New Year and the highest Hindu holiday
Last Friday was Diwali, a festival in which it is primarily concerned to pray for luck in the near future and to achieve prosperity. This tag breaks went to the Hindu calendar, the year end. On this occasion, where piles of gifts, distributed sweets, a little prayer and a lot geböllert!
I'm in that day started with a party the night before, that's why the day started a bit later. It's like on 24.12. even if everyone buys the last gifts and the city is packed. In the evening we went to the family by nem Indians, then there was the Diwali instead of prayer. Thereafter kräfig geböllert before then again went into the temple to pray, eat and party afterwards was announced.
It felt sharply after Christmas, all sweet, gifts, lights, ...

Kashmir (Part 1) - not India, but the coolest trip in India
After Katra, it now went to Kashmir, more precisely Srinagar, the capital of the State of Jammu & Kashmir, located in the Kashmir Valley. The trip was again overnight, which I regretted for the return trip, as even the way is bloody impressive.
Dort angekommen, naja noch nicht richtig sondern nur an der Busstation 8 km vor der Stadt erfuhr ich: Heute ist Streik, keine Busse fahren. So schloss ich mich andern Indern an, die mit nem Jeep (hier ein Taxi) in die Stadtfuhren. Dort suchte ich das am Vorabend von nem Dänen und ner Amerikanerin empfohlene Hausboot. Der Shikara-Fahrer/Steuerer, also der Wassertaxifahrer, machte mir ein besseres Angebot: ein Frühstück bei ihm und dann kann ich meinen Trip genauer planen. Alle Hausbootbesitzer sind auch irgendwie tourist guides. Nach dem Frühstück, I slept 3 hours first before it started to tour of Srinagar. I visited Moghulgarden (a garden built by a king (Moghul) for his woman, the other was Taj Mahal (-:), Nishat Garden, and a craft shop, where carpets and shawls are made by hand Then There Were lunch and I sat down. the water to enjoy the sunset. However, this was possible ned as traders came immediately that I wanted to tighten everything. And there were many traders! tourists are rare this time of year and business was not exactly over the summer intoxicating, as the political and security situation due to demonstrations and attacks was tense.

The next morning we left early, 5:45 Clock, Market for Vegetables. What was traded there was clear. It was interesting to see how a market takes place on the water, of course, was also made wet :-) As the sun began to rise, the market was over und alle shipperten in verschiedene Richtungen davon.

Streik war an meinem ersten Tag, für den dritten Tag angekündigt und am letzten Tag wieder. Aber trotz Streik bekam man alles was man wollte, wenn man wusste wohin man gehen soll.
Im Unterschied zum Rest von Indien gabs im Kashmir, jeden Tag Fleisch, aber man fand keine Liquor Shops.
Die Kashmiris sehen anders aus als die Indier, sie zählen anders, sprechen anders, verhalten sich anders. Ich hatte also nicht das Gefühl in Indien zu sein.

Katra (Jammu & Kashmir)
Ich habe mir eine Woche freigenommen um mir den äußersten Norden anzuschauen: Jammu & Kashmir.
Los gings nach der Arbeit am Samstag mit dem Bus nach Katra. Katra ist einer der Heiligsten Orte der Hindus.
Morgens in der frühe kam ich an, suchte mir en zimmer und hab erstmal 3 studen geschlafen, danach gabs Frühstück und los gings:
15 Km den Berg hoch bis zu dem Temple, dabei rund 1000 Höhenmeter schaffen, 3,5h ein Weg. Zur auswahl steht: Zu Fuß, in einer Sänfte, auf einem Pony, per Helikopter.
Für jede Preisklasse war also was dabei. Ich wählte die zu Fuß version. Und hatte so einen würdigen einstieg in den Himalaya.
Im Temple waren keine Statuen oder so, nein, nur Steine, aber die waren - typisch indisch - verziert, angezogen und mit einer art Krone oben drauf.
Dieser Ort wurde mir von einem Inder empfohlen, als ich dort war wurde ich dann auch mehrmals gefragt wie ich denn diesen Ort gefunden hab; sonst kämen hier nie ausländische Touristen vorbei. Allerdings sah der Ort sehr touristisch erschlossen aus und hatte eine hohe Hotel- und Gasthausdichte. Pro Tag kommen da um die 10000 indische Touristen hin.

Ganz einfach, nach nem Geschäftsessen/Party/Geschäftsabschluss wenn alle schon gut dabei sind, der Alk jedoch alle ist, setzt man sich ins Auto (meine beiden chefs in je ein Auto und dann wird ein Rennen gemacht wer als ersten bei nem noch offenen Beer & Liquor Shop ist (war schon gegen 2am).

Die tollsten Stories über Indien waren in der Zeit kurz vor beginn der Commonwealth Games in den indischen Medien zu finden: Hauptfußgängerbrücke zum Eingang des Stadions eingestürzt, Teile des Dachs des Stadions eingestürzt, Raten und Straßenhunde schlafen in den Betten des Athletendorfs, Arbeiter pissen in public on the sports ground ... If you live here, this is all a matter of course and one wonders any more.

Ach ja, da wär noch der National Highway von Chandigarh nach Dehli (entspricht von der Wichtigkeit und dem Anspruch der Strecke Hamburg – Berlin). Da ist auf dieser ach so tollen und wichtigen Strecke halt einfach mal für 200m der Asphalt so schlecht, dass dort 20cm!!!! tiefe Schlaglöcher sind.
Ein weiteres zu den Straßen. Die sind ja so Fortschrittlich und haben Einfassungen für die Straßen. Wenn es nun jedoch rains in the monsoon season so common, it may be that the road is totally flooded, as water has to flow no way. Des eigentlich tollste ist doch wenn man morgens ins Büro kommt und man ist halt einfach der einzige. In der Regel kommen die Leut nach en paar Minuten. Nicht so an den inoffiziellen Feiertagen (Raki, oder Ende der Fastenzeit), da kommen die Leute halt mal erst am Nachmittag, ohne vorher um Erlaubnis zu fragen...
